We are delighted to announce that Xanadu Consultancy has been named the Cork SME Company of the Year at the Cork Chamber of Commerce Awards. We were presented with this prestigious award on Friday 6th February by Anne O’Leary CEO of Vodafone Ireland.

Speaking at the announcement of the winners, President Gillian Keating noted ‘The Cork Company of the Year Awards recognise the achievements of companies operating at the top of their game across the four categories. Year after year, the entry levels get stronger and, in tandem with our partner Vodafone, and the committed panel of judges we work to find the most innovative companies who deliver products and services that drive growth and create jobs regionally, nationally and internationally. Our finalists and winners are passionate, knowledgeable and driven to succeed and enhance the reputation of the region across the globe’.

“It’s been a very exciting journey here at Xanadu. We started with a small consultancy contract over three and a half years ago, and today we have over 125 people on-site with another 120 positions over the coming 14 months.” says Chief Executive, Mark Brosnan. “I feel very privileged and proud every morning I walk through the front door to be working with such a fantastic group of people. This year Matchbook decided to reward one lucky customer with the dream trip of a lifetime. Everybody who entered the competition simply needed to bet on the NFL for 4 of this season’s game weeks, and the qualifying entries were then put into the draw. From the thousands of entries received, only one lucky person could be crowned the winner of this awesome prize. Congratulations to James, who is jetting off with his girlfriend Irem to Phoenix, Arizona to take in this year’s Super Bowl XLIX courtesy of Matchbook!

Instead of simply ringing James however, Matchbook decided to have a little fun. Teaming up with James’ girlfriend, the Matchbook team began planning a great way to give James his prize. So the team flew over to London to find James and secretly fill his day with NFL hints to build up to the giveaway. His reaction was pretty priceless when his girlfriend announced that he had won this once-in-a-lifetime trip. Check it out below:

Matchbook’s first major marketing campaign was rolled out in December, offering all website users commission free betting on all soccer markets until April 1st 2014.

The Campaign went live on December 2nd at 12.00pm (GMT) and is open to both new and existing customers across web and mobile platforms. says ‘if you’re a genuine punter looking to make long-term profits, Matchbook’s current 0% commission on all football markets is simply too good to refuse.’ staged a launch event at the ATP Finals, O2 London on Sat 9th of Nov to celebrate the official unveiling of their new brand identity and the release of their new betting exchange platform. The Matchbook management team was joined by key industry figures to showcase the re-designed technology, which includes a brand new look & feel and a suite of new functionality and features.

Cian Nugent, COO, when introducing the new platform, explained how a change in ownership and new investment allowed the organisation a major opportunity. “Technology has powered the growth of the industry and most companies have had to build upon legacy systems to keep pace. Thanks to the investment and patience of the new owner, we had the luxury of re-building Matchbook from the ground up. What we have now is a really powerful platform, in a brand new technology stack, allowing us the flexibility to develop and adapt the site easily to customer demand.”

With the surge in industry growth as a result of the explosion of access from multiple devices, Mr Nugent goes on to explain Matchbook’s mobile strategy:  “The site maximises the real estate on all screen resolutions, displaying as many betting opportunities as possible, and is fully responsive all the way down to smartphone size. The value of the investment in our core technology is already paying dividend as we have just completely redeveloped our iPhone application in a 4 week program.

As you may have seen in the Silicon Valley Global magazine in the Autumn Winter 2013 edition we are continuing to expand our employee numbers and clients.

We continue to offer great software development, operational support and consultancy services as we rapidly grow our Cork headquarters. We predominantly offer consultancy to the online gaming sector through our cross-discipline team with industry leading skills in Java development, Big Data and cloud computing. Combined with the management teams 30+ years of operational and business experience and backed by a 24/7 operations support office, Xanadu is well positioned to deliver cutting edge technology solutions and support.

Recently we have updated Matchbook’s betting platform to use the latest technology stack using a RESTful API, harnessing the Backbone framework for the new UI and delivering instant updates to the end user via a WebSocket Protocol which enables two-way communication.

We are glad to announce that Xanadu will be  creating up to 40 new technology jobs at our Cork office in the near future. We have grown from a start-up employing four people in 2011 to 54 people today.

The new roles are primarily in IT with vacancies in software engineering, business analysis, application support, data analytics and system architecture.

These roles will include research and development of new software as well as ongoing maintenance and upgrading of current software and hardware systems.

“We feel that this announcement is positive affirmation that Xanadu Consultancy is offering a quality service to the clients it services in a sector with very strong international growth,” said CEO Mark Brosnan.

“We feel that our decision to locate in Cork with access to very talented and dedicated staff has been a big contributing factor to our success to-date.

“We have proven, extensive experience in managing back end software solutions for the online gaming industry. In addition, we have a large in house development team who strive to continually offer new and innovative software solutions,” Brosnan added.

The new Premier League season is one week in and our client Matchbook have reported hugh growth in website traffic. This was an exciting time at Xanadu Consultancy where we met the challenge of keeping the website in great condition for the busy first of 38 premier league rounds. We are now looking forward to week 2 where we expect Matchbook to receive hugh traffic for the match between two of the top three, Man United and Chelsea.

So who should we bet on?

There are plenty previews and betting advice doing the rounds with most pundits trying to identify season long bets, meaning you will probably have to wait until the end of the season in May 2014 to collect your winnings.

Its a big change for Manchester United with a new Manager for the first time since 1986 with David Moyes taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson. I think this will be a tough season for David Moyes with such tough competition from Man City and Chealsea to retain their title.

Two seasons ago, City won the title under Mancini but put up a poor defense of it last season. There is a hugely talented squad of players at City and they have spent further money during the summer to recruit Negrado, Jovetic, Navas and Fernandinho. Unlike Man United who have failed to make any major signings with the pursuit of Fabregas coming to nothing in the end.

I know United are the champions but City and Chelsea are both looking stronger. So who will win the Premier League? I favour City to do it but I just find it very difficult to dismiss Mourinho’s chances at Chelsea. Mourinho won the title in his first season in charge of Chelsea back in 2005 and knows what it takes to win it again. Man City are top priced to win the title while Chelsea are second favourites.

In Holland as of the 1st of January 2015, State Secretaries Teeven and Weekers want to make it possible that a online gaming licence can be obtained in the Netherlands.

The law that regulates this has been presented for consultation last month (May 2013). The online providers will have to pay 20% tax. So it seems that this is a significant step towards the modernization of the gaming policy in the Netherlands. The Netherlands will apply a rate that is near the high end as compared to the tax rate for online gaming in the neighbouring countries.

So before this becomes finial, the input will be processed and the proposal will be discussed by the Cabinet and submitted to the Council of State for advice.

The start of 2013 has seen a great deal of progress on the new Betting Platform for Matchbook. Its a very exciting time for Xanadu as a whole as we are delivering on months of development and a brand new look and feel Matchbook Betting Platform. I firmly believe that Version 1 of the new Matchbook Betting Platform will help further unlock the massive potential of the website. We have not only built a suite of new functionality for them, but applications that are flexible and scalable in terms of functionality. We have in essence built a very strong foundation that will make new iterations of Matchbook quick and efficient, this will make the product very agile and adaptable in a ever changing industry. The new Matchbook website is expected to go live Summer 2013.
